HJ Bosch & Sons leads the empowerment drive

HJ Bosch & Sons Panel Beaters is a family-owned business with a legacy dating back to 1969. All their franchisees are 100% Black owned enterprises and therefore Level 1 BEE contributors. The challenge for the Motor Body Repair Sector is to find synergy between its current industry models and practices and the vision and efforts of government to drive economic transformation. While the HJ Bosch & Sons Panel Beaters target market is insured vehicles out of warranty, with around 70% of all vehicles in South Africa being uninsured, they also service this market.

Whether you want to open a new store or convert your existing store, we offer a complete turnkey franchise opportunity to help make your dream a reality. Franchising allows franchisees to retain their independence and express their individuality while enjoying the support of a group of like-minded individuals. Their comprehensive training ensures that franchisees are able to deliver the level of service and standard of workmanship customers have come to expect from HJ Bosch & Sons.

Franchisees will initially be limited to repairing out-of-warranty vehicles. However, once accredited on the various automotive brand panels, developed the necessary skills, and acquired all the required tools prescribed by each brand, they will also be able to take on in-warranty vehicles. This accreditation will require additional investment from the franchisee but is not a requirement for the initial setup of the franchise.

For existing Auto Body shops, joining our network is an opportunity to preserve what they have built and strengthen it by locking arms with one of the industry’s well-respected names for more than fifty years. Franchisees benefit from the group’s buying power and our relationships with accredited suppliers. In addition, rebates on the network’s collective purchases from our accredited suppliers are used to fund our regional and national marketing campaigns to increase brand exposure.

Our franchise model embraces a culture of continuous learning that includes supervised in-service training for all employees and training of apprentices in conjunction with merSETA.

Our Brand’s BEE strategy has people at its heart. We believe a BEE process that invests in people to empower themselves through knowledge, experience, and Skills Training for this Industry would be the best foundation for widespread and sustainable growth in South Africa.

Therefore, we want to grow our national footprint through franchising. Our growth strategy includes expanding the business into rural areas with a shortage of insurance-approved panel beaters.

We believe that the “Right to Repair” initiative can be extruded as follows:
R2C + R2R = Mc2 me (Right to Choose + Right to Repair = More Cash 2 Me)

With the following advantages for our franchisees:

  • Consumers can select where their vehicles are repaired, at competitive prices and in the Auto Body Shop of their choice without the risk of voiding an existing warranty. Previously OEMs could void a warranty if a vehicle was not repaired at the OEM-appointed Auto Body shop.
  • OEMs may not set minimum retail prices for spare parts
  • Non-approved Auto Body Shops to get the same technical information, programming tools, and training as the OEM-approved workshops.
  • Insurers are obligated to advise consumers in clear and explicit terms that they have a right to have the repairs on their vehicles undertaken by an Auto Body shop of their choice, irrespective of whether it is an insurance claim.
  • Guidance from the commission about the appointment of Auto Body Repairers by Insurers and OEMs has the objective of lowering barriers to entry and ensuring that a more significant number of firms, especially firms owned and operated by SME’s can undertake repair work of motor vehicles within the period covered by a motor vehicle’s warranty.
  • Equal Opportunity: This revolves around a fair appointment process and a fair allocation of work.
