Finding stability out of uncertainty

Finding stability out of uncertainty

“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.”

The timeless wisdom of the ancient Serenity Prayer has never been more appropriate as we tackle the year ahead. It seems that the key to getting through the challenges that confront us all lie within ourselves and how we can draw on an inner strength to survive and prosper.

Face the facts
As the wise saying implies, you need to recognise and accept that some things are out of your control whilst others can, with a clear head and a purposeful intent, be worked on and solved. Understanding that change is inevitable and life will always have its ups and downs, will give you perspective and free you up to focus on what you can control and change in your life.

Build resilience
Resilience is the ability to dig deep to find ways to cope with the challenges that confront you – be their personal or in your work sphere. It’s an ongoing process that requires effort to build and maintain over time but it can often also be the catalyst to teach you important lessons on how to stay focused and productive, to confront challenges head-on and more importantly, to recognise that the strength to survive lies with you and you alone.

Stay motivated
A difficult call when it seems the world is crumbling around you but, as the saying goes, there is always light at the end of the tunnel and sometimes with adversity comes opportunity. Even now, amongst all the doom and gloom, there are those that have found a silver lining having found an alternate income source or found a way around the obstacles they face. A positive and motivated attitude often is the catalyst that opens doors to new opportunities.

Look ahead – this too shall pass!
Firstly, take a step back and remember when we thought the days of the pandemic would never end. But they did pass, we survived and if we look at history life brings waves of tough times followed by good times and it is on those good times we must now focus our energies on. Understanding the ebb and flow of life, tackling problems one step at a time, appreciating the small successes and remaining positive is the only way to move in the right direction.
