FASA’s Golf Day kicks off spring
It’s a FASA tradition to mark the start of Spring when FASA’s members of franchisors, their franchisees and suppliers and service providers get together on the golf course – some to play serious golf, others to play bad golf but all there to enjoy the spring sunshine and network. And that is exactly what the 29 fore-ball teams did on Friday 22nd September.
The list of companies that played included Food Lovers (who drove down from up north where they had played golf the day before), Defendoor, Adams & Adams (with FASA’s Legal Adviser and board member Eugene Honey we believe holding the record for attending the most FASA golf days over a span of fifteen years), Capitec Bank, Legends Barber, Nedbank, Sage, Mochachos, Last.Mile.Fast, Sausage Saloon, OBC, ABSA, Galito’s, Standard Bank, Mica, Penquin, Thomas Wilks Attorneys, Pirtek, Old Mutual, FNB (with FASA’s immediate past Chair Pertunia Sibanyoni as the only female player), Soma Workshop, CITO, Sunbake/RCI Foods, Cash Converters, Nando’s and Overland Liquor.
Arriving to what turned out to be a scorcher of a day, the 116 players were welcomed by McDonald’s McCafé who served complimentary coffee and doughnuts. As the players collected their scorecards, they were given FASA caps and goody bags courtesy of Legends Barbershop that included some really useful toiletries and refreshments.
For the second year running Absa was the overall sponsor and another 14 companies were Hole sponsors and included Bridgement, Neo-Ai, Christodoulou & Mavrikis Attorneys, Sunbake / RCL Foods, GC Solar, Proudly SA, PRP Solutions, Deposita, Cash Converters, Sheerguard, Defendoor, Last.Mile.Fast, Everything Insure and King Musa. Providing much needed refreshments and gifts along the way, this was an opportunity for the companies, some of them new members to FASA, to engage with players. There was even the opportunity for a player getting a hole-in-one on Hole 13 to win a staggering R100 000 from Everything.Insure. Sadly, no-one managed that feat – well, there is always next year!
After a long and hot day on the course, players gathered for a well-deserved dinner and prize-giving. Thanks to all the companies that donated prizes – ranging in value from R300 to R8 000! There was much goading as competing fast food four-ball teams won each others’ sauce hampers, banks won each others’ prizes and one or two companies won their own prizes. Two lucky golfers also walked away with prestige golf bags to the value of R8 000 each and the top prize of a special designed cooler box filled with drinks to last through the Rugby World Cup, courtesy of Last.Mile.Fast was won by the top four-ball team of Pirtek. They will definitely be celebrating this month!
The FASA Golf Day would not be possible without the generous sponsorship from Absa and all the companies taking up the hole sponsorships and donating prizes. But more importantly, what makes the FASA Golf Day so special are the players who come back year after year to support this networking event and also to the new members who so enthusiastically participate.
