Tindlovu began in 2012 in the Kruger National Park with our restaurant based at the Mopani Camp. One restaurant felt like an absolutely incredible success, little did we know that nine more would come very soon. We now have the following restaurants in the Kruger National Park: Mopani, Letaba, Shingwedzi, Punda Maria, Satara, Olifants, Berg en Dal and Afsaal Traders Rest.

We have recently expanded beyond the Kruger National Park, opening  “Tindlovu at the Gardens” at the Nelspruit Botanical Gardens and opening in December 2019 “Tindlovu Camps Bay”in Camps Bay.

Tindlovu began long before our first restaurant was opened in 2012. Tindlovu has been in the making since our CEO first decided she wanted to pursue hospitality at a very young age. Tindlovu is more than a restaurant and hospitality company. Tindlovu is a community. Strong family principles… have led to big business management.

Tindlovu is an experience: from entering the restaurant, to indulging in our delicious African-fusion inspired meals, our customers will leave with their stomachs filled and their hearts full.

Tindlovu Chief Executive Officer, Jo-Anne White cut her teeth in the restaurant and hotel industry. Jo Anne commenced her early years in the hospitality industry when she joined the Crocodile Country Inn in 1990 as a receptionist. Some thirteen years later in 2003, she had grown to the point where she bought the Inn.

Such was her success that by 2009 Jo-Anne had grown the business from one wedding and two conferences a year to the point where the establishment was hosting an average of 780 conferences and approximately 46 weddings each year.

Due to Jo-Anne’s commitment, enthusiasm and drive, turnover grew over the 17 years from 1992 to 2009 from R3.1 million to R15.5 million per annum (a 500 % growth).In 2009 she sold her shares in the Inn.

In 2009 she and her husband starter their own Marketing Company.

Gaining valuable knowledge and experience enabled her, to create her own hospitality brand in 2012:

The name Tindlovu comes from the Swazi word for Elephants. Whilst doing a site inspection in Mopani, White had a moment to take in the views over Pioneer Dam. These graceful giants were playing there and it struck a chord.

In December of the same year, Tindlovu was awarded the tender for the Mopani Camp restaurant for a period of 10 years, establishing the brand.

A year later, its sister company, Select Events and Venues, was awarded the tender for the Berg en Dal camp restaurant. Tindlovu was asked to set up temporary restaurants whilst the franchised restaurants were refurbished in the following years; thus Tindlovu Boskombuis was created.

SANParks was impressed with the unique and authentic brand, which led to Tindlovu taking on Shingwedzi and Punda Maria. By 2015 Tindlovu Bush Café was established with the focus on a rustic look and feel, complementing the picnic sites as well as embracing the catering side of the Kruger National Park.

Soon after, the tender for the Afsaal picnic site and management contracts for Letaba, Satara and Olifants’ restaurants came in.

In 2018 Tindlovu brand was awarded the tender to operate at the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens by SANBI.

The ever-growing elephant of a company is expanding their horizons once more, having bought into a well-established City & Guilds Accredited National Chef School and will be opening a Mpumalanga campus in 2020.

Tindlovu are also expanding to the Cape Town as a new Restaurant will be opened in December 2019 on Camps Bay.

The Franchisor will provide:

• Initial training and ongoing training for the franchisee
• Access to information – system, marketing material etc.

• Business support and analysis

• Financial management skills and business acumen
• Computer Literate

Some of the Training will be done internally by Head Office and the more specialized training like Health and Safety will be outsourced and conducted by reputable companies.

Training will be done over 12 days at Tindlovu Head Office.
