FRANCHISING SINGLED OUT IN MINISTER OF SMALL BUSINESS, LINDIWE ZULU'S RECENT SPEECH IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY


 
 

After a year in office and in her address on the occasion of Budget Vote 31 in the National Assembly, Lindiwe Zulu of the Ministry of Small Business reiterated her mandate of leading and being the commanding voice for Small Business and Cooperatives within government. "Our hawkish eyes will search and grab every opportunity presenting itself in support of growth and sustainability of SMMEs and Cooperatives."

Delivering products and services to a demanding consumer base, the over 30 000 franchisees in South Africa, according to FASA's Franchisee survey, are a happy bunch – both with their franchise choices and with their businesses' performance. Most franchisees that were surveyed have been in business for more than six years, with 39 percent in operation for longer than 12 years – highlighting the sustainability of those businesses.

The FASA Convention culminated in a panel discussion with the following franchisees having
their say:

  • Peter Moyanga, a multi-store McDonald franchisee and past chairman of FASA,
  • Felicia Ntisa, a Sorbet franchisee,
  • Jacquie Willers who owns a Col'Cacchio franchise,
  • Shadrack Mashele, owner of an OBC Chicken &
    Meat franchise.
