The establishment of the Small Business Ministry, under the stewardship of Lindiwe Zulu bodes well for franchising. President Zuma, in his address in parliament confirmed that ‘the development of the small business sector is critical to economic development and transformation.”  With small business acknowledged as the backbone of the economy but recently impeded by red tape regulations and difficult trading circumstances, it was encouraging to hear that the new Minister would look at the policy issues as well as the legislative elements that are impeding the growth of the small business sector.

  GAUTENG LIQUOR ACT ALLOWS BOOZE ON SUNDAY  
 

The Gauteng Liquor Act, enacted by former Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane in April this year but delayed because regulations must first be approved, has thrown a lifeline to traders as it will allow trading on Sundays but with tightened requirements for the granting of licences.
