What every business should know about search engines

  • 81% of websites are found via search engines.
  • Over 80% of all online searches are performed on Google.
  • The first page of search results receives 90% of all click-through traffic.
  • The first ranking position in the search results receives 42% of all click-through traffic.

Approximately 80% of the world's online searches are conducted through Google search. Billions of daily searches are being conducted on the internet and there has been a complete shift in the way that people are acquiring information. The daily searches on the Net are for Information, Navigation and Transactions.

With Googles search Algorithms constantly changing, Websites are having to be updated with good quality content and links. In short, this means that there's no point in spending heaps of money having the best looking website on the internet if no one can find you - it's like having a retail shop and hiding it down an unmarked alley.

A successful website is one that is reaching and converting traffic organically into successful sales and brand awareness.

A Business listed on the top page of Google generates a huge volume of traffic to their site whereas being listed on the second page, the traffic is almost halved. Businesses want to have their sites ranking on Google.

Google is promoting an enjoyable and accurate search visitor experience and with Googles latest search Algorithims, namely Panda and Penquin. Many sites using unethical search practices have lost their rankings. To rank organically and ethically on Googles search engine, there needs to be a more accurate, realistic and creative approach to marketing.

Google promotes sites that have relevant and updated quality content. Quality content can also be linked to other marketing platforms such as Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc.

Google Adwords, Social Media, blogs, directory listings and "pay per click" are an important aspect of a successful internet marketing strategy. This has the added benefit of drawing traffic to a website. Relevant content, keywords and meta-tags can make a difference to a sites rankings, especially if visitors are landing on the relevant page, finding what they have searched for and being engaged and wanting to explore more on that particular site.
