Comsumer Ombudsman Launched

The Consumer Goods & Services Ombudsman (Ombudsman) was launched in Johannesburg on Wednesday 13th March 2013, established by retailers and service providers as well as industry associations linked to the consumer sector. The Ombudsman is intended to handle the resolution of disputes before they reach the courts to avoid backlogs in the court system. It is reported that the Ombudsman will have a presence in all provinces within South Africa. The next step for the Ombudsman's office is to formalise a board and appoint an ombudsman who is expected to operate from premises in Randburg. The appointment is expected to take place by the end of April 2013.
