Fast-tracked salt regulations angers Consumer Goods Council

After government's initial proposal to reduce salt content in foodstuffs, industry representatives and manufacturers had appealed to government for further consultation and a more cautious approach but it seems that the Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi is on a mission and indicated that he would sign new regulations in by the end of March. The Consumer Goods Council of SA (CGCSA) has expressed disappointment that their appeal for alternative approaches as the impact of the regulations would not be effective because of unrealistic timelines, a lack of consumer education and cost implications had been ignored and appealed to the Minister of Health to reconsider.
