SOWETO CITY TO CHANGE THE FACE OF SOWETO
Situated on the site of the current cooling towers, Soweto City is set to be a landmark seen by passing traffic that will bring retail, entertainment, tourism, investment and job creation to Soweto.  According to Mark Brown, CEO of The Brown Group (TBG), the first phase of the complex, the City Centre, at 65 000sqm starts construction and is 90% let with both Pick n Pay and Shoprite as anchor tenants.  The second phase, City Lights, will involve turning one of the cooling towers into a 3 300 sqm expo and music centre to cater for concerts, live events, weddings and community gatherings. The two phases will be linked via an underground amusement coal bunker train, once used in the old tunnels. The final stage will be City Life, a regional shopping centre that will retain the area’s architectural heritage.
