SHOPPING CENTRE NEWS

Up-market malls are fighting to claim the limelight as Joburg’s elite with the traditional ones such as Sandton City, Hyde Park and Eastgate undergoing major revamps, others are glamouring to take the top spot – such as Melrose Arch with its 100 new shops spanning 30 000 sq m and smaller centres like the Morningside Shopping Centre positioning themselves in the high-end bracket.

Other new mall developments include:

  • The expansion of Clearwater Mall on the West Rand – from its current 63 300m2 to 87 500m2.

  • Woodland Boulevard in the eastern suburbs of Pretoria is to be enlarged from its current 42 100 m2 to
    71 000m2 with a number of new tenants taking space.

  • The Mall of the North, a 75 000m2 shopping centre on the periphery of Polokwane is set to open its doors for trading in the first quarter of 2010 with anchor tenants being Pick n Pay, Checkers, and including Edgars, Woolworths, Game and Dis-Chem.  Developed by Resilient Property Income Fund, Flanagan and Gerard and the Moolman Group.
